About Us

Who are we?

We are a bunch of ordinary Christians meeting in Openshaw, East Manchester with a vision to reach new people, to love others in practical ways, to grow in Christian faith and to train new leaders and young people. Currently, there are around 30 of us, and we are a diverse mix of people, backgrounds and ages – for example we come from 7 different countries, but are united in our faith in Jesus Christ.

We are inviting new people who are interested in exploring the Christian faith, plus new members to help us impact the community, to come and visit us.

Where and when do we meet?

We meet mid-week in our homes and on Zoom to share life, pray and open the Bible together, also we meet at 10:30am on Sundays* at Sporting Edge, Silverlace Avenue, M11 1GN (see picture below). We also run outreach events and activities at various locations across East Manchester.

Our rented Sunday venue is the other side of Fairfield Road from Morrison’s Openshaw at Lime Square, it is 5-10 minutes drive from the M60 (Junction 23) and is also just off the 219 Bus Route between Manchester Piccadilly and Ashton-under-Lyne.

Who’s invited?

The short answer is everyone but we should say this is a church for ordinary people. We are not a slick church full of perfect Christians, but instead we are a church made up of ordinary people on a journey with an extraordinary God, growing in faith, hope and love.

As we say elsewhere on this site, we have found freedom from the past, strength in the present and hope for the future. We’d love others to experience the same thing, too.

More about our vision for Hope Community Church

Our vision includes following two key passages of the Bible:

  • Matthew 28 – to go, make disciples, baptise & teach obedience – that is, to be a family on mission with Jesus
  • Jeremiah 29 – to seek the peace the prosperity of the city to which God has called us. Put simply, we want to help others in East Manchester and beyond.
